This blog documents the process of a modified CATTt, a heuristic device for the purpose of invention outlined by Greg Ulmer in his book, Heuretics: The Logic of Invention. The CATTt's letters stands for five "spots" that are occupied by literate texts and other media.
Contrast -- Francois Julien, Propensity of Things
Analogy -- David Campany, Cinematics
Theory -- Jacques Lacan, The Four Fundamental Concepts of Psychoanalysis
Target--Internet
Tale--Blog, Prezi, Video
On the blog, you will see my process of deriving 5 'instructions' for a final experiment through each of the 3 texts. On the "Instructions" page, you can find my final 5 instructions that make-up a "recipe" for the project.
The raw material for our project was generated through another project invented by Ulmer, most clearly outlined in Internet Invention, called a Mystory. The Mystory allows one to discern a pattern, a "wide image," in one's own life, a pattern which reveals our orientation in the world. Click the link for more information about the Mystory as well as links to former projects I have completed for other seminars with Greg Ulmer. Ulmer's home page also contains many useful links, explanations, and examples.
Everyone in the seminar has produced their own experiments. Links to their blogs are provided below. It may also be useful to visit Ulmer's own blog for more information on the course.
